Hey Cybertoast, we totally agree with you and have always thought about giving back to the open source community. Besides our changes to webistrano, we have made many changes to our infrastructure so that it's very streamlined for a cloud environment. We have also done a lot of work in the area of monitoring. Like all things the biggest issue right now is resource allocation. We have so many projects to implement so its tough to prioritize this.

If you would like, how about you PM us at pingtre@mskynet and mention this blog. I can put you in touch with the dev who implemented this change and maybe we can share some of our code if you can share with us a little about what you intend to do with it. Looking forward to hearing from you.

I'm pretty much in the same situation you are but about 6 months late. I was just going to write the API to webistrano connecting it to EC2 (or build the EC2 functionality into Webistrano) but just noticed your post. Any chance your code can be released as open source so that others can benefit from it?

Hey Javier, thanks for the comment. To be honest, we launched this for a very different reason. We have actually had this functionality for well over a year, but kept it at the alpha stage until now. We are very happy to see that JagTag is picking up a little momentum as the 2d barcode space is not mainstream yet and every success story helps.

I do agree that your comment about optimizing the return content is important.. However, I would say that optimizing the mobile experience is the real game changer and that's why we have been so reluctant to launch this service. In many ways, we feel that its taking a step backwards by needing someone to type in an address *and* attach a photo. The reason for this launch should be evident pretty soon as we are about to make exciting announcements related to it.

Thanks again for the comments Javier. Much appreciated.

This is a reaction to the success that jagtag is having in the market. What sparqy will soon realize is that its not just about the mms/email work-around to downloading an app, its also about optimizing the return content, thta's the special sauce.

Hey Thomas, thanks for trying this out. It's still in Beta so we are doing a lot of tweaks. We will definitely look at why this failed for you. As for our business model, our generic service currently is and always will be free. Our paid services is more centered on analytics, custom integration, AI / Dynamic behaviors. We aren't sharing to the world yet what exactly we are going to be doing with this service, but we have some exciting partnerships that will be launching soon using this technology.

Interesting concept. Tried it but it failed to interpret the "This is cool" code.
Whats the business model behind it? Will there be some kind of a per scan fee for the publisher of the code?

Keep up the good work.
